SAS – Simplified Accountable Structure

We are proposing a new, streamlined administrative structure for our church designed to improve communication, accountability, and focus on ministry.

Key Features:

• A centralized leadership board of 9 members to enhance communication, streamline decision-making, and strengthen accountability.

• A shift in focus from maintaining structures to supporting and growing ministry.

• The traditional committees—Finance, Trustees, Staff-Parish Relations, and Church Council—would be dissolved.

• The Nominations and Leadership Committee will remain and oversee a careful and extensive vetting process for selecting the 9 leaders.

• With fewer people needed for administrative committees, more individuals can actively participate in ministry.

• Ministry teams and standing groups will continue as they are. The Preschool and Cove will also continue unchanged under the leadership board’s umbrella.

FAQs:

• This model is approved by the United Methodist Church, should we choose to adopt it.

• Several local churches (Haygood UMC, Nimmo UMC, and Courthouse Community UMC) have used this structure for over five years and report strong effectiveness.

• Pastor Won has experience with this model and supports it. One key benefit is more efficient use of pastoral time—he would attend one leadership meeting per month instead of four separate committee meetings.

• Adoption of SAS requires a vote by the congregation.

Our Journey Together:

We are on this journey together. Until the congregational vote later in June, each Sunday, we will share a short video highlighting different aspects of SAS to help inform and guide our congregation.
