About Bertie

• I am a member of a very large family–ninth of ten children–and grew up with my family in Moncks Corner UMC, in South Carolina. The members there were my ‘church family’. After moving a number of times with my Navy pilot husband, Roddy, and ending up in Virginia Beach, FAUMC became our church home and its members became our new church family. Our three children, Susan, Karey and Roderick, attended Sunday School, Bible School, became acolytes, went on ski trips, etc., all at FAUMC. I have served as a Sunday School and Bethel Bible teacher, served on Board of Trustees, Pastor Parish Committee, Church Council, too many committees to name, and I’m the current Lay Leader for FAUMC. My favorite thing about all of these positions is working with a diverse church family whose common goal is serving God to the best of our ability. You may see me around, not just in meetings but picking up trash, pulling weeds, cleaning the kitchen or happily in the Sanctuary singing my favorite hymns–after all it’s my church home.
